He was but a young man in his early twenties, yet Sri Ramana Maharshi had already the serene countenance and radiant eyes of a Sage. He lived in a cave on the sacred mountain, Arunachala, beside the town of Tiruvannamalai in Madras State. He sought solitude and maintained silence to discourage visitors. Nevertheless, disciples gathered round. He was already known as ‘Maharshi’, the ‘Great Sage’; devotees addressed him in the third person as ‘Bhagavan’ (Lord).

Ramana was a silent Teacher, if there was one. It would be more appropriate to call him the Silent One, for teaching denotes duality, the teacher and taught, while Ramana was, as a devotee wrote, “the Pure Non-dual Essence.” His most direct and profound teaching was transmitted in silence.

However, how many were there that could immediately hear or experience the unspoken, the unwritten word? Devotees and visitors asked questions and out of his boundless compassion Bhagavan answered them in his own inimitable way.

Maharshi Comments:

–The intricate maze of philosophy of different schools is said to clarify matters and reveal the Truth. But in fact, they create confusion where no confusion need exist. Why should confusion be created and then explained away? To understand anything there must be the Self. The Self is obvious. Why not remain as the Self? What need to explain the non-self?

–The word “Yoga” means simply “to join” the small personal self with the greater Self in order to achieve liberation from the limiting world of phenomenal existence. There are many Yoga systems or techniques for controlling body, breath, and mind. All are helpful aids, but no more than aids. One must eventually dive inward by self-questioning, self-searching to achieve realization of the Self.

But Self-Realization is not something new to be gained. For whatever may be gained may be lost. The Self, eternal and ever-present, is already in each of us; we are the Self. We have only to dispel the ignorance imposed by the Ego to realize it.

The cosmology flowing from India has strongly impacted our understanding of God, consciousness, and existence. Of significant influence are the evolved ideas of South India mystics Sri Aurobindo, J. Krishnamurti, Sri Ramakrishna, and Sri Ramana Maharshi. On our pilgrimage to South India we will visit their ashrams and centres, journey to shrines and through sacred landscapes, expand our hearts, enliven our senses, and renew our sense of self and purpose.

Guiding this journey is quantum physicist Amit Goswami, a practitioner of spirituality and transformation who was featured in the film “What The Bleep Do We Know?!”; and renown yoga psychologist and child psychiatrist Uma Krishnamurthy whose spiritual roots stem from being born into a family of Indian Theosophists. In addition to discussions and dialogues, Dr. Goswami will initiate us in quantum activism, a new integral (karma) yoga for re-establishing spirituality in our society. Dr. Krishnamurthy will lead experiential sessions using yogic tools such as hatha yoga practices, chanting of mantras, meditation, and classical Indian dance, allowing us to explore the realms of superconscious states. The remote viewing program at SRI did yield significant intelligence, Targ noted. For instance, one remote viewer drew pictures of a Soviet weapons laboratory, and described a particle beam weapon under construction. Four years later, this information was verified by US spy satellites. We also found a crashed Soviet reconnaissance plane, and a kidnapped General, he said. Yet in 1995, after 23 years, the viable program was dismantled by Robert Gates, then head of the CIA because of religious fundamentalist pressure.

One of the secrets to successful remote viewing is being able to quiet the mind, and then draw what pops into your awareness, Targ explained. Skilled remote viewers like Ingo Swann were even able to see things off planet– he drew rings around the planet Jupiter, and Mercury’s magnetic field, before either were confirmed in 1974. Such experiences point to a field of non-local awareness that we can tap into.

Okay, it’s all good, but how about it being a lot more than just you and your stuff? Instead of just that rehashed narcissism, with the same old teachers, the same old books, the same old gatherings talking about the same old stuff on how you can be special, how about really using some of the old and proven wisdom teachings to help find your genuine essence of being which is inclusive of all and everything and is powered by a Higher Mind of which you are only playing your part.

The time is drawing near for a great leap into what could best be described as multi-dimensionality and the time is now coming for us to step out of our sad narcissism and truly come together to support and love one another.

So how do we do that?

What about becoming powerful shapeshifters—creators of reality through truly learning and using ancient visualization medicine?

“Use visualization in a positive way; be aware throughout the day of the many times you visualize and take control of these; expunge your negative visions mercilessly and concentrate on positive ones.

“We all visualize frequently. In fact, prior to doing almost anything, we visualize it. Before your hand reaches for a pencil, your mind visualizes the event. You see your hand reaching out and taking the pencil, then you do it. These lessons have proven extremely helpful during psychonavigation.

“Visualization must always be combined with a positive attitude. When confronted with a situation, some of us tend to emphasize the negative. We may have established an unfortunate pattern of visualizing outcomes that are counterproductive to our goals or interests. Once these are fixed in our minds, we may focus on them and mull them over, worrying and fretting. We may wake up in the middle of the night, overcome with anxiety and ‘stressed out.’ Our bodies, minds, and spirits can be affected. All this help reinforces and increases the momentum of the negative. Visualizing ways in which a situation may deteriorate gives energy to the negative. Ironically, we can set ourselves up, helping to assure that our worst fears will be realized.

“The best lawyers exploit such negative visualization. An attorney friend of mine once spelled this out clearly when he told me, ‘Half the battle is won the minute an adversary starts visualizing what life will be like after he loses. I’ve got him as soon as he allows the negative to invade his feelings. My first—and perhaps most important—job is to trigger his negative visions.’

“Such negatives must be swept from our minds. Expunge them mercilessly. Do not let people use you this way, and do not talk yourself into your own traps. Take control of your visualizations. See positive results that turn the negatives around. Have faith, and visualize the outcome you desire.

“Visualization can be a highly effective tool. Take control of it; use it for positive results.”

2012 AND HUMAN DESTINY: END OF THE WORLD OR CONSCIOUSNESS REVOLUTION? Stan Grof, M.D.

Since the publication of Jose Arguelles’ book The Mayan Factor: Path Beyond Technology (Arguelles 1987) brought to the attention of lay audiences the ancient prophecy concerning the end of the Maya Long Count calendar, which started on August 11, 3114 BC, and will end on December 21, 2012 AD, this date has become the focus of many articles, books, and of a forthcoming movie entitled 2012. Similar prophecies about the end of the Great Cycle can be found in many other cultural and religious groups – the Hopi, Navajo, Cherokee, Apache, Iroquois confederacy, ancient Egyptians, the Kabbalists, Essenes, Qero elders of Peru, the Subsaharan Dogon tribe, and the Australian Aborigines.

With a few exceptions, the Mayan prophecy about the end of the cosmic cycle, the Fifth World, has been interpreted in terms of actual physical destruction of humanity and of the material world, in a way similar to the interpretation (or better misinterpretation) of the term apocalypse by Christian fundamentalists, particularly the millions of American Christians who believe that at the time of this global destruction they will experience “rapture” and be united with Jesus.

People who see it this way are not aware of the fact that the original and literal meaning of the term apocalypse (Greek) is not destruction but “lifting of the veil” or “revelation.” It referred to the disclosure of some secrets hidden from the majority of humanity to certain privileged persons. The source of the misinterpretation of this word is probably the phrase “apokálypsis eschaton” which literally means “revelation at the end of the æon, or age.”

The purpose of this conference is to explore a radically different, more optimistic interpretation of the Mayan prophecy – as referring to the end of the world as we have known it: a world dominated by unbridled violence and insatiable greed, egotistic hierarchy of values, corrupted institutions and corporations, and irreconcilable conflicts between organized religions. Instead of predicting a physical destruction of the material world, the Mayan prophecy might refer to death and rebirth and a mass inner transformation of humanity. In order to explore this idea, we have to answer two important questions, First, how could ancient Mayans two thousand years ago predict what situation humanity would be facing in the twenty-first century? And second, are there any indications that modern society, more specifically the industrial civilization, is currently on the verge of a major psychospiritual transformation? I will try to address these questions in the course of my presentation.

For six days Dr. Sheri Rosenthal and Shanti Gilbert will guide you through the opportunity to experience the beauty, majesty and energy of this unusual location on Mother Earth. Each day you will visit a different vortex to reflect our inner mystic to us, and in addition, the limiting beliefs and concepts that are keeping us from this self-realization and oneness.

The time frame for this September retreat happens to be during the sacred Jewish holidays of Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Beginning with Rosh Hashanah on September 18th – until Yom Kippur on September 27th which is the day of Atonement (the at-one-ment with Spirit/God), the veils between the worlds are thin making it a perfect time to reflect on the past year and to commit to dreaming a healthier future filled with our deepest intentions. It’s time for forgiveness and living our life from a place of wholeness and love. Indeed – you don’t have to be Jewish to appreciate this mythology (as this journey is not about religion, but about expressing our divine nature). You only need the desire to open your heart and mind to more powerful opportunities for love and light in your life.

You will be gathering at the lovely Sedona Mago Retreat Center. The center serves a healthy vegetarian diet and is located on land that vibrates at a high frequency. Using the techniques of the vision quest, shamanistic dreaming, meditation and ceremony we will embrace our oneness with the land and each other. From this vantage point you will clearly see how you are preventing yourself from becoming all you can be in this lifetime.

As part of this retreat you will engage in a fire ceremony, multiple ceremonies in beautiful locations, and a beautiful healing massage which is part of the retreat package.
